Although lung cancer causes nearly 40,000 deaths annually in the UK, and is the most frequent of all malignant diseases, there have been recent improvements both in life expectancy and in the quality of life of treated patients.
This volume discusses the organisational shifts following the Calman-Hine proposals and the major therapeutic modalities - surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and combined modality treatments - which have resulted in these improvements.
In order that the improvements continue, lung cancer must be detected early, so recent developments and likely future changes in screening are also comprehensively covered.
The important part played by nurses in the care of patients with lung cancer is also discussed, and they, along with trainees and specialists in oncology, respiratory and thoracic medicine and radiologists will therefore find this volume to be extremely valuable. |
